  • Summary of Challenge: Manual warehouse processes, paper-based inefficiencies, and legacy customisations created operational bottlenecks, reduced visibility, and impacted scalability.
  • Solution Overview:NoBlue2 conducted a tailored NetSuite Warehouse Management System (WMS) implementation at Astrak’s leading UK site, delivering automation, system optimisation, and the foundations for a global rollout strategy..
  • Key Results:
    • Reduction in manual data handling through warehouse automation
    • Enhanced inventory visibility and operational efficiency
    • Empowered internal teams to deploy WMS to global sites independently

Background

Astrak is a global parts business specialising in undercarriage components and wear parts for earthmoving machinery. Headquartered in the UK, Astrak operates across Europe and North America, supporting customers through a network of subsidiaries and strategically located warehouses in countries including Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, and Canada.

The business supplies a comprehensive range of high-performance products such as rubber tracks, steel tracks, final drives, rollers, idlers, and bucket teeth — all designed to keep excavators, bulldozers, and other heavy equipment running reliably in demanding environments.

Astrak’s growth has been driven by its commitment to product availability, rapid delivery, and industry-leading customer service across multiple time zones and markets.

Initial Challenges

The warehouse operations at its Scottish hub remained heavily reliant on outdated, manual processes.

Key challenges included:

  • Paper-based workflows: Warehouse staff often processed stock receipts and movements across multiple physical documents, resulting in redundant data entry and transcription errors.
  • Inventory visibility issues: The lack of real-time updates created gaps in stock flow tracking, delaying fulfilment and complicating decision-making.
  • Safety concerns: Given the weight and volume of products, Astrak needed a system to manage bin weight limitations and avoid overloading racks.
  • Process duplication: Manual data handling resulted in inefficiencies, human error, and team fatigue.

Astrak recognised the need for a structured, scalable WMS solution that could resolve these inefficiencies and form a repeatable model for their international operations.

Solution

NoBlue2's Approach

NoBlue2 approached the project with a deep dive into Astrak’s operational structure. A system audit identified inefficiencies, while workshops with stakeholders helped prioritise user-friendly and scalable features.

The solution’s core was the implementation of NetSuite’s WMS at the Kirkcaldy site. Key components included:

  • Phased WMS deployment: NoBlue2 delivered a carefully planned rollout that minimised disruption and allowed real-time monitoring and adjustments.
  • Custom scripts for bin logic: Special weight validation logic ensured safe and compliant stock placement, considering the heavy-duty nature of Astrak’s inventory.
  • Automation of workflows: Putaway processes, picking, packing, and shipping were fully digitised to remove reliance on paper and manual tracking.
  • Minimal impact to global systems: The solution respected their existing intercompany structures and ensured no disruption to other subsidiaries.
  • Training for sustainability: NoBlue2 equipped Astrak’s internal team with the knowledge and tools to manage future implementations independently.

This collaborative approach ensured a smooth go-live in December 2024, with the implementation starting just four months earlier in August.

Results and Outcomes

Quantifiable Success

  • Reduction in manual data processing tasks, cutting unnecessary duplication and time waste.
  • Significant increase in stock accuracy, reducing fulfilment errors and stock discrepancies.
  • Scalable WMS structure deployed successfully in Canada with minimal NoBlue2 intervention.

Qualitative Benefits

  • Smoother warehouse operations with reduced physical paperwork.
  • Empowered warehouse staff and improved morale due to simplified systems.
  • Enhanced decision-making from real-time inventory visibility.
  • Strategic readiness for international standardisation of warehouse processes.

Conclusion

With the WMS now successfully live at the Kirkcaldy and Canadian sites, Astrak is actively progressing toward wider adoption across their European subsidiaries. Sweden & Texas are among the next target locations, with internal teams now driving rollouts using the knowledge and templates provided by NoBlue2.

NoBlue2 remains on hand to support, particularly for advanced requirements such as the final deployment of bin weight validation customisation. This long-term partnership is built on shared trust, knowledge transfer, and their growing capability to operate independently and confidently.

Astrak’s transformation illustrates the measurable value of a well-executed NetSuite WMS strategy. NoBlue2’s approach empowered them to transition from fragmented, manual operations to a fully automated and scalable system, setting a new operational benchmark within their industry.

Astrak now stands equipped with a flexible digital foundation that supports both local excellence and international expansion.
