A Complete Guide to NetSuite Functional Modules (Updated for 2026)

Our complete, up-to-date guide to NetSuite’s functional modules – the what, the how and the who for.

Explore NetSuite

Modern businesses cannot expect to drive revenue and scale quickly if their business systems can’t keep up (or even actively hold them back from growing). What you need is a leading-edge Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) ERP that is highly customisable, highly configurable and highly scalable, such as NetSuite.

One of the great things about NetSuite is that it’s a modular system, meaning you only pay for the parts of the system that you need to use. As your business grows, you might start adding different functions, such as Project Management. With NetSuite, you can easily add the Project Management module at any point during your subscription, configure it to fit your business requirements and start using it straight away.

With all the different ’Suites’, SuiteSuccess packages and modules on offer, NetSuite can be a little confusing, so hopefully this article will give you a clearer picture of how your subscription is put together, and what modules are available for you to leverage. Of course, you don’t need to know all of these NetSuite modules inside out – a good NetSuite partner will ask the right questions and tailor NetSuite to suit your business, but it does help to have some idea of what’s on offer before you enter into discussions.

NetSuite Editions and Users

Before we get into NetSuite modules, we need to mention some other aspects of NetSuite.

NetSuite ‘Suite/Edition’

Firstly, every NetSuite customer must have a Suite or Edition as the starting package.

There are several editions available from NetSuite. Some editions include additional modules based on what is typically required for customers in a particular industry.

For example, the Software Edition includes the Software Management Cloud Service, which provides bundled functionality specifically tailored to the typical requirements of companies in the software industry, such as Issue Management and Electronic File/Software Delivery.

Users

Once you’ve established which Suite you need, you’ll need to determine how many users require access to the system and the level of access they need. There are two levels of user, each priced accordingly:

  • NetSuite General Access user – NetSuite General Access gives full access to all functional areas of NetSuite (controlled by roles & security permissions) to one named user, who logs in using their email address and password.
  • Employee Self-Service 5 pack – This is a pack of 5 Employee Self-Service named users who can access NetSuite using their email address and password. Their access is restricted to only creating and editing expense reports, project tasks, purchase order requests, timesheet/time tracking entries, calendar events, notes, tasks and phone calls.

The Employee Self-Service 5 pack is priced at approximately 1/5th of the price of 1 General Access user.

Functional modules explained

What Are NetSuite Modules?

How Do NetSuite Modules Work?

NetSuite modules essentially work as building blocks that you can add to the base of NetSuite ERP. Each one plugs into the NetSuite database, so functions using the same data shared by the rest of the system, giving you a fully customisable and integrated solution.

Of course, each module adds a cost to your subscription, but for most of the modules, that price is fixed and will be the same regardless of how many users you have using NetSuite. And you’ll only ever pay for the modules you need – they’re completely optional.

So, for example, if you want to use the Job Costing module, the price remains the same whether you have 15 users or 1,500 users, and all users have access to that module (if allowed through roles and permissions).

On to the list. It’s quite long, so we’ve split it up according to each module’s functionality, e.g. Finance, CRM, etc.

NetSuite Modules List
NetSuite’s 30+ modules can be broadly broken down into the following categories. We’ll explore the modules in detail below - you can use the following links to jump to each category.

Financial Management & Planning

NetSuite OneWorld

NetSuite OneWorld enables multi-company and multi-country support in NetSuite. This allows your business to run NetSuite across multiple business entities, in multiple countries, using multiple currencies, all whilst complying with local regulations and taxes.

OneWorld includes consolidation functionality and allows you to set up unlimited subsidiaries in the “home” country in which you purchased NetSuite.

Top Tip:

When you purchase NetSuite, you must ensure that your “home” country is aligned with the country that your TopCo entity resides in; this is the entity that will be at the top of the subsidiary hierarchy that you set up in NetSuite.

For example, if your TopCo is XYZ Holding Company Ltd, based in the UK, but you are purchasing NetSuite using your French company XYZ France S.A., you need to specify to your NetSuite sales representative that your “home” country will be the UK, before they provision your NetSuite environment. If you fail to do this, then you may need to request that your environment be re-provisioned.

Best for: Required for businesses with multi-currency or multi-subsidiary operations

Additional OneWorld Country

If you want to use NetSuite for business entities/subsidiaries outside of the “home” country you purchased NetSuite in, you must buy an additional OneWorld country licence for each country that you wish to set up a NetSuite subsidiary in.

Best for: International businesses establishing active legal entities, tax registrations or trading subsidiaries in new geographic regions.

NetSuite Electronic Bank Payments

Electronic Bank Payments supports electronic payments in multiple countries, offering global coverage for a wide variety of banking formats, such as BACs (UK), SEPA (EU) and ACH (USA). Without this module, NetSuite will only support banking formats for the “home” country set up for your business.

Best for: Finance teams wanting to automate local and cross-border vendor payments, direct debits and bank transfers directly from NetSuite.

NetSuite Advanced Financials

Advanced Financials builds on the standard accounting functionality available in the core NetSuite ERP, with more advanced and complex budgeting, allocations, amortisation, billing schedules and statistical accounting functionality. While most businesses will benefit from this enhanced functionality, it’s particularly beneficial for businesses with complex accounting requirements or using subscription models.

Best for: Finance departments managing complex expense allocations, multi-tier budgets, automated amortisation schedules and statistical accounting.

NetSuite SuiteBilling

For companies with recurring or subscription-based sales & billing models, NetSuite SuiteBilling provides extended functionality to support more complex billing requirements. It can support different pricing structures, such as tiered, usage and volume-based pricing, as well as subscription and rate plans.

It also supports renewals and evergreen contracts, allows you to configure different price plans and import usage data to support usage-based billing.

Best for: Subscription, SaaS and recurring-revenue businesses requiring flexible pricing tiers, automated contract renewals and usage-based billing models

NetSuite Dunning Letters

The Dunning Letters module improves efficiency for Credit Collection teams by automating the chasing of late payments. A dunning workbench with tailored dashboards and reports helps you focus on reducing DSO (days sales outstanding) and improving cash flow.

Best for: Credit control teams seeking to automate customer payment reminders, streamline collections workflows and lower DSO.

NetSuite Revenue Management

For businesses that sometimes or always recognise revenue separately from how they invoice customers, NetSuite’s Revenue Management module helps to streamline and automate the process of generating revenue recognition journal entries, forecasting revenue recognition and reporting on the process.

Specific functionality that the Revenue Management module supports includes:

  • Revenue rules and plans
  • Manual/automated posting of revenue journal entries
  • Revenue plans triggered on:
    • Fulfillment
    • Billing
    • Revenue arrangement creation
    • Subscription events
    • Per cent complete;
  • Bulk updating of revenue plans
  • Contract acquisition cost amortisation (supports the need for disclosing amortised contract costs under ASC606)
  • Reporting for contract liability waterfall and roll forward
  • Reporting for revenue forecast (including cost amortisation)

Best for: Companies needing to uncouple invoicing schedules from revenue recognition through rule-based milestones, fulfilment triggers and event-driven recognition plans.

NetSuite Advanced Revenue Management (ARM)

The Advanced Revenue Management (ARM) module extends NetSuite’s Revenue Recognition capabilities even further, and is an add-on module to the Revenue Management module (you must have purchased Revenue Management in order to purchase ARM).

The additional extended functionality offered by the Advanced Revenue Management (ARM) module includes:

  • Multi element arrangements
  • Fair value price lists, formulas & dimensions, merging of arrangements / linked orders, item revenue categories
  • Revenue plans triggered on custom events

Best for: Public, enterprise or multi-element business models needing automated compliance with complex ASC 606 and IFRS 15 accounting standards.

NetSuite Planning and  Budgeting (NSPB)

Oracle NetSuite Planning & Budgeting is a planning, budgeting, modelling and forecasting module. NSPB is perfect if your finance team wants to perform more advanced budgeting and forecasting than you can achieve in NetSuite. Therefore, it is ideal for companies that need to model a variety of different business scenarios based on predictions or assumptions that might change over time.

Additionally, you can base scenarios on data from multiple sources (not just data in NetSuite).

Best for: Finance leaders needing advanced multi-scenario modelling, rolling forecasts, complex business driver analysis and enterprise-grade financial planning beyond standard spreadsheets.

NetSuite Fixed Asset Management (FAM)

This module enables businesses to manage their fixed assets directly within NetSuite. You can propose an asset directly from a purchase order, then decide how you would like NetSuite to depreciate the asset over time, up until the point where you decide to dispose of or sell the fixed asset.

The NetSuite Fixed Asset Management module now also supports Lease Accounting under the IFRS 16 standard.

Best for: Capital-intensive businesses tracking asset acquisition, automated depreciation schedules, lease accounting under IFRS 16 and asset disposals within ERP.

NetSuite Multi-Book Accounting

Managing parallel accounting books across different countries can be overwhelming, but NetSuite Multi-Book Accounting simplifies the process and lets you issue transactions across multiple accounting sets simultaneously. It will automatically convert currencies and apply different accounting rules and standards, taking the stress out of compliance while allowing you to deliver comprehensive and high-value reports.

Best for: Global organisations that must maintain parallel financial records to comply simultaneously with local statutory accounting rules and global corporate standards (such as GAAP and IFRS).

NetSuite E-Invoicing

NetSuite E-Invoicing automates the creation, sending and receiving of electronic invoices in compliance with international tax standards. It connects your account directly to relevant tax authorities and regional networks and automatically converts billing data into the required formats, such as XML, Peppol or JSON. By removing manual document handling and validating your data instantly, it keeps you compliant with local tax regulations, speeds up customer payments and lowers administrative costs.

Best for: International trading businesses that must comply with government-mandated e-invoicing formats, digital signatures and tax portal integrations across various countries.

Operations, Supply Chain & Manufacturing

NetSuite Advanced Procurement

This module extends NetSuite’s payables functionality to provide support for more complex procurement processes common in larger organisations. This includes functionality to support purchase requisitions, purchase contracts, request for quotes (RFQ), blanket purchase orders and more.

Best for: Businesses that need to standardise purchasing workflows, manage requests for quotes (RFQs) and track vendor performance.

NetSuite Advanced Inventory

Advanced Inventory offers extended inventory management capabilities for NetSuite, which are typically useful for businesses that hold stock in warehouses for distribution. If your business buys and sells physical goods, you’ll gain a single real-time view of your inventory across all channels and locations, as well as capabilities such as bin management, lot tracking, pick/pack/ship and serialised inventory, among others.

Best for: Multi-location wholesalers and retailers that require real-time stock visibility and control, bin management and multi-site re-ordering rules.

NetSuite Demand Planning

NetSuite’s Demand Planning module is designed for companies that hold physical stock for sale and distribution to other businesses. It uses information on the forecasted demand for individual items to create purchase orders, ensuring that stock levels are maintained to meet forecasted demand and avoid stock-outs.

The module also provides information on which items are available to promise for delivery to customers on specific dates.

Best for: Product-led businesses who have to forecast stock requirements accurately to avoid stock-outs or overstocks and reduce holding costs.

NetSuite Warehouse Management

NetSuite Warehouse Management automates everyday stock tasks through mobile barcode scanning. It guides staff through item receiving, put-away, wave picking, packing and inventory audits. By replacing manual paperwork with live updates, it speeds up order fulfilment, cuts picking errors and maintains precise stock levels across all your locations.

Best for: Product-based businesses that need accurate, real-time inventory control and efficient warehouse operations.

NetSuite Work Order Management

This module opens up the work orders and assemblies functionality to companies that either wish to assemble items from various components they have in stock, or manufacture items using the work order process (which may also require tracking WIP and using work centres on a routing to complete the manufacturing process – see below).

Best for: Assembly businesses and light manufacturing; businesses who need to create build orders and track component usage.

Advanced Manufacturing WIP & Routing

This module is to help manufacturing companies track the work in process (WIP) against a work order. The work order might also be aligned with a routing, which outlines the manufacturing process that must be followed to complete the work order. Actions undertaken at different work centres on the routing can also be tracked for costing purposes.

Best for: Complex manufacturing; businesses requiring real-time shop floor control, work in process (WIP) tracking and capacity planning across multiple work centres.

NetSuite Quality Management

NetSuite Quality Management automates inspection routines across receiving, production and shipping. Your staff can record test results on mobile devices, enforce pass or fail standards and automatically hold any non-conforming stock. By capturing complete quality records, it helps you to maintain product consistency, reduce waste and simplify compliance audits.

Best for: Manufacturers and distributors that require strict quality control, traceable inspections and regulatory compliance.

Front Office, Sales & Customer Experience

NetSuite CRM (Customer Relationship Management)

NetSuite CRM provides a single, real-time view of your entire customer journey. It connects your sales, marketing and service teams, allowing you to track leads, forecast opportunities, execute email campaigns and manage customer interactions. Best for: Sales and marketing teams seeking a unified platform where they can capture leads, streamline pipeline management and deliver personalised customer experiences.

NetSuite SalesForce Automation

NetSuite SalesForce Automation streamlines the end-to-end sales process within NetSuite’s unified platform. It gives your sales teams the tools they need to manage opportunities, route leads, generate accurate quotes and automate commissions. Connecting pipeline data directly to back-office order fulfilment improves forecasting accuracy and speeds up the journey from initial lead to completed sale.

Best for: B2B sales teams wanting to standardise lead conversion, automate quote-to-order workflows and gain real-time pipeline visibility.

NetSuite Contract Renewals

The Contract Renewals module helps companies to manage and automate the renewal of contracts they hold with their customers. It provides functionality to facilitate uplifts, discounts, auto-renewals, returns, and many other contract related processes.

Note: This functionality is now available in the new SuiteBilling module, which is more powerful and can support more use cases, and while Contract Renewals is still supported, NetSuite is steering new users toward SuiteBilling.

Best for: Recurring revenue or service-based businesses who want to automate subscription management, manage price changes and prevent churn.

NetSuite Incentive Compensation

For companies with sales teams who are paid commission calculated on the basis of what they have sold, the Incentive Compensation module helps to automate this process, resulting in reduced processing costs and higher sales rep productivity. This module can also be used to automate the payment of commissions and royalties to partners that your business works with.

Best for: Sales-based businesses where there are complex commission structures and tiered quotas to adhere to.

SuiteCommerce Advanced

SuiteCommerce Advanced offers businesses fast and engaging web stores that deliver great shopping experiences. Optimised for any device, it unifies eCommerce with your core operational business systems and inventory and order management. Together with Customer Support and Financial Accounting, this module provides a single view of customers, orders, inventory and other critical business data, enabling personalised and relevant omni-channel experiences.

Best for: B2B and B2C brands that need a flexible, high-performance and fully-customisable eCommerce store.

SuiteCommerce InStore

SuiteCommerce InStore will be of benefit to retailers with a solution that unifies the physical and digital shopping experiences within a single, cloud-based commerce platform. Arm your sales associates with a mobile device that provides complete inventory and customer information to engage customers more effectively, drive more sales and provide a satisfying shopping experience.

Best for: Omnichannel retailers who want to equip their store teams with mobile point-of-sale tools so they can view stock and process orders seamlessly.

NetSuite Grid Order Management

The Grid Order Management module enables a different way of entering lines on a sales order within NetSuite, using a grid-based approach. This is particularly useful for distribution companies selling matrix-based items, and for manufacturers with multiple item variants.

Best for: Apparel, home furnishing, manufacturing and other businesses where multiple product variants (e.g. size, colour, etc) and/or bulk orders are common.

NetSuite Software Management

This module is specifically for companies in the software industry. It provides extended functionality for electronic file/software delivery when you sell software online, issue and RMA management, and customer self-service.

Best for: Software vendors that need to deliver digital files, manage licence keys or track customer workflows

Advanced Partner Centre (APC)

APC licences can be used to give your partners access to a range of transactions, lists, and reports. You will grant your partners access to the Advanced Partner Centre, which is a secure, restricted-access portal on your NetSuite environment. Additionally, it can be branded to fit your organisation’s style as well as encourage your partners to self-serve when they need information.

Best for: Companies selling through distributor or reseller networks, where they require a branded portal for partners to register leads, generate quotes and place orders directly

Professional Services Automation (PSA) & Project Management

NetSuite Project Management

For companies that manage projects (externally for clients or internally), NetSuite’s Project Management module offers a way to manage projects and their associated costs within NetSuite.

You can then bill your customers if you are charging them for the project, and NetSuite supports a wide range of billing options, including time & materials, milestone, fixed price and charge-based billing. Tasks and resources on the project can be managed in a drag-and-drop fashion using an intuitive visual user interface.

Best for: Businesses that need to track internal or external projects, milestones, resource allocation and job billing within their ERP.

NetSuite Job Costing

The Job Costing module extends the functionality of the Project Management module, to enable you to capture project budgets and run a P&L per project. It also enables you to capture project costs on the General Ledger and calculate project profitability.

Best for: Project-focused organisations that need more granular budget tracking for individual projects

NetSuite Resource Allocation

The Resource Allocation module enables you to visually and intelligently manage your employees (resources) as they are allocated work on different projects. It includes searching for resources by skill set, availability and other important attributes. The module also offers a visual drag-and-drop resource management interface that facilitates the finding and allocation of resources to projects and project tasks.

Best for: Service delivery teams needing a visual tool to search for staff by skill set, evaluate availability and balance workloads.

NetSuite OpenAir

NetSuite OpenAir automates operations for professional services organisations. It connects all aspects of your business across project management, resource allocation, expense and time logging and complex billing. As it integrates seamlessly with your front-end systems, your team gains real-time visibility into profitability, resource usage and financial performance, across multi-currency and global teams.

Best for: Professional services firms and consultancy practices that need advanced resource scheduling, project accounting and precise billing management.

Human Resource Management (SuitePeople)

NetSuite SuitePeople HR

NetSuite SuitePeople HR centralises your employee records, organisational structure and core HR processes within one platform. It offers self-service tools for staff, allowing them to update personal details and request time off, while giving managers the ability to automate onboarding and manage resources. By linking HR data directly to core ERP operations, SuitePeople HR simplifies workforce management and keeps records compliant across your business.

Best for: Mid-market businesses looking to eliminate manual HR paperwork, streamline employee onboarding and maintain accurate workforce records.

NetSuite SuitePeople Performance Management

For growing businesses, keeping a consistent appraisal process in place and ensuring all employees’ objectives are aligned with your business goals can be tricky. SuitePeople lets you embed goal setting and performance reviews within your day-to-day operations, enabling continuous feedback. Real-time project and financial data can be pulled straight from the system to give you a true picture of your team’s achievements and track progress against your strategic objectives.

Tying staff development to measurable business outcomes helps you to nurture your  top talent, maintain clear accountabilities and foster a culture of continuous high performance across every team.

Best for: Growing companies wanting to replace outdated yearly appraisals with data-driven performance reviews, clear goal alignment and structured career development.

NetSuite SuitePeople Payroll

SuitePeople Payroll automates payroll calculations, direct deposits and tax filing directly within NetSuite, removing the need for third-party software and data transfers. It pulls time, attendance and commission data into your payroll runs, handling all the necessary admin for you. Unifying your finance and HR data in this way eliminates manual processing errors, saves processing time and ensures precise general ledger updates.

Best for: Businesses wanting to run fully compliant, error-free payroll that’s directly linked to their general ledger and employee records.

NetSuite SuitePeople Workforce Management

If your business operates across multiple locations, managing shift patterns and hourly staff can be a logistical nightmare. SuitePeople Workforce Management helps you avoid this headache by automating rotas and time tracking and enabling you to manage staff coverage through an easy-to-use mobile interface.

So, wherever you are, you can see at a glance what is happening across all your locations. Using live sales and operational data, the platform accurately forecasts staffing requirements, applies complex pay rules, and even records clock-ins via facial recognition or mobile geofencing. This powerful real-time tracking means you can reduce overtime or staffing shortages, eliminate time theft and keep costs down.

Best for: Multi-location, retail or shift-based businesses needing to streamline complex rotas, enforce attendance rules and tightly control wage expenditure.

Analytics, Business Intelligence & Performance

NetSuite Analytics Warehouse (NSAW)

NetSuite’s AI-powered, cloud-based data storage and business intelligence platform. It’s powered by Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse, combined with machine learning, and integrates your NetSuite data with external business data within one secure environment. NSAW runs alongside your ERP to give you powerful data analysis and reporting without needing complex data engineering or manual extraction.

Best for: Organisations that want to combine NetSuite financial and operational records with external business data in a single, AI-driven cloud data warehouse for deep predictive analytics.

SuiteAnalytics Connect

The SuiteAnalytics Connect Service, also referred to as the Connect Service. It lets you archive, analyse, and report on NetSuite data using a third-party tool or any custom-built application on any type of device using a Windows, Linux, or OS X operating system.

NetSuite offers ODBC, JDBC, and ADO.NET drivers that you can download, install, and use. You can then use SuiteAnalytics Connect to use your NetSuite data in a wide range of tools. It includes popular BI and data analysis tools like Microsoft PowerBI, Excel, BIRST, Adaptive, Qlikview and others.

Best for: Data analysts and IT teams who want to query live NetSuite records using SQL, Power BI, Excel or external BI tools via standard ODBC, JDBC or ADO.NET drivers

SuiteCloud Plus

As well as NetSuite Datacentre Premium Tiers, NetSuite offers SuiteCloud Plus licensing as a mechanism that enables high-volume NetSuite customers to increase throughput for their transactions. To use an analogy, SuiteCloud Plus is equivalent to expanding a two-lane road to four or more lanes, proportionally increasing traffic volume while the speed limit remains the same.

Additionally, a SuiteCloud Plus license can enhance throughput by:

  • Increasing the number of queues available for scheduled scripts
  • Increasing the number of queues and threads available for CSV import jobs
  • Increasing the number of concurrent threads available for web services through support of concurrent web services users

With SuiteCloud Plus licensing, you can designate up to three concurrent web services users, with up to 10 concurrent threads from each user. Prior to SuiteCloud Plus, in the absence of concurrent web services user support, you had to manually manage concurrent threads.

Best for: High-volume enterprises needing extra backend processing capacity for heavy automated script queues, large CSV batch imports and high-concurrency API integrations.

NetSuite Modules FAQs

Your questions answered

NetSuite’s basic licence gives you access to General Ledger (GL), Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), basic inventory management, standard CRM and reporting.

NetSuite already offers solid functionality out of the box, particularly on the finance side of things. However, larger or growing businesses will definitely benefit from the expanded or department-specific functionality that modules offer.

Start by mapping out where the bottlenecks are in your organisation, along with your strategic goals. If you work with a NetSuite implementation partner, they will use this information to help you identify which modules are necessary from day one, which you can then add to as your business grows.

Yes, and no. You can add new modules co-terminally at any point during your subscription. However, when it comes to removal, this can usually only be done when your subscription is up for renewal.

Yes. NetSuite is highly customisable, and that extends to its modules. You can add custom fields and customise records, workflows and user roles within any module. You can also use SuiteScript and SuiteFlow to build bespoke business rules.

As with anything NetSuite-related, it very much depends on functionality and scope. Each module does add a cost to your subscription, but for most, that price is a fixed, flat fee, and will be the same regardless of how many users you have using NetSuite.

NetSuite uses a modular subscription model. You pay a base platform fee (the Edition), a fixed annual fee for each chosen add-on module, and individual access fees per user type. This ensures that you only pay for the specific capabilities your business actively uses.

Modules are built directly by NetSuite; SuiteApps are third-party add-ons or integrations built on NetSuite’s SuiteCloud development platform and verified via the SuiteCloud Developer Network.
